Hi there, fashionista mamas. We all love black and white but don’t forget about navy. Navy’s a great variation to these basic colors and looks great on blonds, brunettes and red heads! There’s something original yet classy about navy. When you find an interesting twist on a navy dress, look at it twice because chances are it’s going to be one of those items that remains in your closet year after year.
I purchased the casual navy blue dress you see here in 2006 right around when I got pregnant with Beckett, my third child. I had left my job as an attorney for an entertainment company, and was pitching my first Internet video start-up with my friend Philippa. We needed something that looked professional yet fun and hip for our first meetings. Wandering around the Upper West Side, we happened upon this Vivienne Tam dress in a local boutique and each of us purchased it immediately. We then likewise bought a sleeveless Missoni sweater. For the first three months of our meetings, we alternated looks: I would wear the navy dress and Philippa the sweater, or we would switch. Since we both had newborns and older kids and not a lot of time to think about fashion, this made for the perfect combo!
Navy Blue Summer Dress
Last Saturday, Marc and I planned to drive with the kids to Brooklyn to meet my French sister Helene’s new baby boy Maximilian. I needed something easy and summery enough for a hot, long day. I popped on the dress (which I had not worn in approximately 12 years) and that was that! Having slipped on my new peach gladiator sandals a cream-colored bag, off we went.
Like the Sandro dress I featured last week, this dress has a cotton base and lace overlay, which makes it comfortable for sticky summer days and dressy enough for night. The loose form of the dress makes it flattering for an array of figures.
Enjoy these days of summer and thanks for reading!
