Happy New Year everyone! I’ve fallen in love with this light, malleable carrier and I know you will too. So please enter below and I’m crossing my fingers for you.
In other videos published over the past month, I demonstrated the different carrying positions of the Mei Tei Carrier. Today I’ll be showing you how to easily nurse using the Catbird. It’s really simple and very comfortable for both you and your baby! Watch and read on to find out more!
Nursing in the Mei Tai Carrier
The phrase “sitting in the catbird seat” refers to someone who is at an advantage or in an enviable position. Your baby certainly will have the advantage when he or she is nursing in the Mei Tai!
To start nursing, first get your baby in a comfortable front-facing position in the carrier. Make sure your baby is safe and secure. Check out my other video on carrying your baby in the front-facing position with the Mei Tai for more information!
The next step is to loosen the second knot (I’ve tied mine in the back) and loosen it in order to get your baby in a comfortable position for nursing. Watch my video for a visual aid. While still holding onto the straps, slowly bring your baby down to breast level. Once they’re in a good position, you can begin nursing on one or both sides using this technique. You can even place a burp cloth there if you’re worried about getting spit up on your clothes (and no mother wants that!)
After your baby has finished nursing, it’s SO important to bring your baby back to the proper carrying position. Think high and tight. You’ll want to test this by making sure you can kiss the top of your baby’s head in the carrier.
So there you have it. Using the Catbird Mei Tai for breastfeeding really is a breeze! Your baby will stay nice and secure, and nursing will be a comfortable experience for the two of you.
Did you breastfeed your baby while housing them in the carrier?!
