How to Back Carry with the Mei Tai

Hello everyone! For those of you who are celebrating, wishing you a very Merry Christmas and hoping you are feeling organized, sane, and cozy at home awaiting Santa’s arrival.
Here on CloudMom, we continue to do our regular ole bread and butter blogs answering your great questions about babies, breastfeeding, nursing and anything else baby or mom I feel equipped to weigh in on! And for this month, we are continuing with our holidays giveaways.
Our third giveaway launches today and also is sponsored by the fabulous baby carrier brand Catbird Baby. Today, I demo how to carry your baby on your back using the Catbird Mei Tei.
Carriers can be so convenient for any situation, whether you’re out running errands or walking through a busy city. This is because it allows you to stay close to your baby, while still staying hands-free! When your baby is first born and little, you’ll be carrying her on your back. When your baby gets bigger, you do have the option with most carriers to carry her on your back. I show how to do this with the Mei Tei in today’s video.
How to Tie a Mei Tai
Unlike some of the baby carriers I’ve reviewed in my other videos, the Mei Tai has long straps that are tied together, not buckled. When you’re first putting the Mei Tai on, make sure that the shorter straps are tied securely around your waist. Once you’ve secured the carrier around your waist, take your baby and position him onto your hip. Like with the other baby carriers, you’ll have to shimmy your baby from the side of your waist onto your back, all while keeping him supported. When the baby is in the correct position, you can now smooth the carrier over his body and pull the straps over your shoulders. When the straps are in front of you, place them under your arms and cross them in the back. You’ll actually be making a type of seat for your baby, giving him or her extra support. Then, once the straps are crossed, bring them back to the front and tie a double knot. Once you’ve made sure your baby’s legs are free and there is enough breathing room, you’re good to go! Watch my video and read the owner’s manual for more on how to use the Mei Tai carrier with newborns and toddlers!
I really enjoy this carrier. I think it’s so lightweight and breathable, perfect for those hot, muggy summer days! Everything about the carrier is easy to adjust as well, making for a comfortable but safe ride for your baby! And remember, as I always say when it comes to baby carrying, tight, tight, tight!
Thanks for watching!
