There is no better way to dress up a black dress than with black. I’m serious. When you’re rushing to go out for a sacred date night with the hubs and the kids are pulling at you, you don’t have time to reflect on a nice outfit. You need to reach into your closet, grab and run. That was last Saturday for me. I threw on an old Sandro black cotton dress, some Sandro gold studded pumps, and a Karen Millen glitzy purse.

It felt so good to walk the streets of NYC holding my sweetie’s hand with the first week of school under our belts. Out of sight, I was freed from homework help requests. I couldn’t pack up backpacks or prep snacks. Ahhhh!

How to Style a Black Dress

Black offers up a lot of options. If your dress is light cotton, try white or beige shoes. If it’s thicker for fall or winter, you can try red or even dark purple. The only thing I would avoid are pastels.This light cotton dress has rainbow threads along the bottom that add just a little touch of color.By the time we made it to the restaurant, it was already dark out which didn’t help me out with these fashion photos. But I know you all understand.Nothing in life is perfect and we learn to be happy with the good moments, not sweating the minor details that don’t matter. My outfit wasn’t a work of art but I felt good, happy to be out and about. Happy to be a mama with beautiful kids and to have a great husband. We’ve had a tough year with Marc looking for a job, but we’re getting through it. Fingers crossed he finds something soon.
