Warrior 2 Pose Tips

Hello there, yogis. The Warrior 2 pose is one of the best known and most highly practiced poses of vinyasa yoga. Yet as with all yoga poses, there are ways to more effectively practice warrior 2. As I’ve written about this pose before, today’s post explores strategies for deepening your practice and enjoyment of this pose. No expert when it comes to yoga, I’m just a mom who enjoys the pause from real life, the breathing, and the sense of peace and balance that yoga brings. It’s really helped me as a mom. What are the benefits of the Warrior 2 pose?
To enter the warrior 2 pause, extend your arms, place your feet wide apart, point your front foot in the direction of your front arm, and maintain your back foot with your toes slightly in front of your heels. Bend your front knee as much as possible, keep your arms and back need straight, and hold your arms tight and long, pushing them outwards.
The beauty of Warrior 2, like many other vinyasa poses, is that you can draw it out. The longer and the deeper you stay in the pose, the more strength you eventually develop. If your legs get really tired (which happens to me all the time) you can straighten your front knee, take a pause, and then re-enter the pause. At first, I could only maintain Warrior 2 for a few seconds and now I can stay in the pose much longer. Yoga is about meeting your own personal best, so don’t feel bad if at first you can’t sink deep nor maintain the pose. Each time you practice you will improve!
What muscles does Warrior 2 work?
The Warrior 2 pose strengths your quads, arms (remember to hold them stiff and tight), thighs, calves, neck, upper back, and even your stomach. Make sure to suck your stomach in and to keep your torso above your hips.

After 16 years of marriage, I was so lucky to get away with Marc last month to Greece, a first for both of us. After three fascinating days in Athens, we headed to the lesser-frequented island of Paros. We rented a tiny car, drove over dirt roads, and discover charming hidden beaches like this one here. It was so wonderful to discover something new together as a couple!
I’ll spend the next year dreaming back to these days, grateful for the time.
