Hello, fashionista mamas. Hope that summer is off to a great start for you all and that you’re finding some “me” time amidst the busyness of kids and family.
During summer, I usually opt for short dresses and long asymmetrical dresses. I tend to prefer short skirts or dresses for nighttime and long dresses for day. During our trip to Dakar in April, though, I fell in love with the vibrant prints and patterns of Senegal and purchased some long summer skirts for myself, family members and friends.
Summer Maxi Skirts
Long summer skirts are easy to wear. A simple tank top (like mine here from JCrew) combined with flat sandals or even flip flops and your look is complete. If you’re feeling fancy, opt for some strappy sandals or wedges for a little lift. They’re a great solution if you prefer tan legs and haven’t been able to get to the beach, or if you’re seeking cover from the sun.
Along with the colors and funky, jungle print of this skirt, its waist provides some interesting options. You can hoist it up for more of an empire look or lower it down to your hips. It has a built-in little cloth belt and is synched at the bank to accommodate an array of waistlines.
I wore the skirt you see here for the first time when Marc and I visited Greece in early July. We splurged one night on a lovely dinner overlooking the Parthenon. I felt a bit shy about wearing the skirt at first since it was a new look for me, but immediately upon entering the restaurant, I gained confidence when the Maître D complemented me on my skirt! Go figure!
It can be energizing to wear something different and take a small risk! Clothes offer us a simple way to do this since when you think about it, the commitment is quite small (assuming your item is well-priced).
Thanks for reading and see you back soon.
Gratefully,
Melissa
