25 Weeks Pregnant

Hey there, pregnant moms and dads-to-be! Welcome to your 25th week of pregnancy! This week brings some interesting pregnancy symptoms and issues to consider, so let’s start learning. Remember, we’re in this together!
25 Weeks Pregnant: Recurring Symptoms
25 Weeks Pregnant: Common Symptoms
Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) during Pregnancy
Your partner may think that you’re ‘nesting,’ but if your legs are feeling tingly and you’ve got the urge to move, you may have restless leg syndrome! I’ve been fortunate to avoid this symptom so far in my pregnancy (cross your fingers). If you do have RLS, doctor’s advise keeping a journal to see if there are any foods that you can link to this feeling. Also, stay moving and get some exercise! This condition can be related to iron-deficiency anemia, so talk with your doctor if you have any concerns.
Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) during Pregnancy
My hips and pubis are in agony. I’ve had a lot of pelvic pain so far in my pregnancy, which is because of the relaxation and stretching of the ligaments connecting the pubic bone. Normally, these ligaments help align the pubis symphysis joint, but this gets a little wonky during pregnancy. My doctor recommended that I continue my Kegel exercises in addition to pelvic tilts! While these exercises haven’t gotten rid of my pubic bone pain, they have helped relieve it.

Stages of Fetal Development: Baby Growth & Size at 25 Weeks
At week 25, your baby weighs 1.5 pounds and is 13 inches long, about the size of a rutabaga. Is your baby moving with the frequency and intensity of a MMA fighter? My baby certainly is at this point. In fact, weeks 25-28 are the most active weeks for your baby, since your baby has enough energy and muscle to move and still has enough room within your uterus to change positions comfortably.
In addition to the flurry of movement, you may notice slight bounces within your belly. Yes, your baby may be hiccuping. Awww, how cute! Whether your baby’s diaphragm is actually contracting involuntarily or your baby is just practicing, this is certainly an exciting development!
Remember when your baby’s hands looked like oars? I sure do! It’s incredible how far you and your baby have come, as at this point, your baby’s hands are fully developed, little fingernails and all. Even cooler, your baby’s hands can curl into fists, but don’t worry: those fists aren’t shaking at you.
Fun Fact About Pregnancy The nutrients from your food will first go to your baby, meaning that you get whatever is leftover! |

Private vs Public Cord Blood Banking
One issue that I’ve begun to consider at the moment is donating umbilical cord blood to a cord blood bank. Did you have to read that sentence five times? Yeah, it’s pretty weird. But in reality, cord blood banking helps save lives. Within the blood from the umbilical cord are lots of stem cells, which are unspecialized cells that can specialize to any type of cell. Stem cells are used to treat conditions like leukemia, blood disorders, immune disorders, and metabolic issues. The procedure to get the umbilical cord blood is simple, painless, and takes less than five minutes. There are two main types of blood banking: public cord blood banking and private cord blood banking. These options are detailed in the chart below. Ultimately, the choice is up to you as to which option is best. Talk with your doctor about your questions and concerns and be sure to alert the hospital prior to when you go into labor about your decision.

Week 4 and Week 5 contain comprehensive information on the foods to eat and to avoid as a pregnant mama. See below and check back in each week for a healthy pregnancy recipe.
Quick, Healthy Meal Tip Feta, Cucumber, Tomato Stacks: Top a rice cake with sliced tomato, cucumber, and pasteurized feta cheese for a nutritious and delicious snack! (HealthyEatingHub) Why Tomatoes? Believe it or not, tomatoes are a fruit that come from the nightshade group. These fruits are originally from South America and are filled with lycopene, which is an antioxidant associated with a lowered risk of cancer and heart disease. To add to that, tomatoes also have a good amount of vitamin C, folate, vitamin A, and potassium, all of which are essential for a healthy pregnancy! |
