Graco Recalls 3.8m Carseats

HUGE head’s up, my friends.  In the 4th largest car seat recall in U.S. history, Graco is recalling nearly 3.8 million car safety seats due to buckles that may not unlatch.  The product safety recall includes 11 car seat models made from 2009 to 2013 by Graco.

graco-carseat-recallIn addition, as reported in The New York Times, safety regulators are arguing that this recall should include another 1.8 million rear-facing infant car seats.  The recall of those infant seats remains in dispute between Graco and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (the “NHTSA”).

Graco has admitted that food or beverages can make the recalled seats sticky and hard to unlatch over time. However, Graco is arguing that since infants don’t consume food or beverages in their seats, that infant seats should not be subject to this toddler carseat recall.  (Personally, this argument doesn’t convince me since my own babies carseat buckles grew crusty with burped milk over time).

According to Graco‘s website, this recall includes these toddler convertible car seats: Cozy Cline, Comfort Sport, Classic Ride 50, My Ride 65, My Ride 70, My Ride 65 with Safety Surround, Size4Me 70, My Size 70, Head Wise 70, Smart Seat, Nautilus 3-in-1, Nautilus Elite and Argos.

Customers affected by the recall can contact Graco customer service to receive their new buckle, free of charge, by calling: 800-345-4109 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by contacting a representative via email at:

Graco is willing to send replacement buckles to consumers upon request.  The company also has provided cleaning tips and an instructional video on its website regarding replacing the buckles.  For this information and more, go to

We will be staying onto of this dispute between Graco and the Federal Safety regulators to see if additional car seat models are added to the recall.

Please spread the word about this very important recall.
