Head’s up, mamas and papas. The CPSC has just announced that Kolcraft has recalled its Jeep Liberty Stroller because of a tire defect. The inner tube of the tire on the stroller can rupture causing the wheel rim to fracture and fly off, posing a risk of injury. This is a big recall because there are approximately 96,000 of these strollers in the U.S. and 510 in Canada.
Kolcraft and the CPSC have received 39 reports of inner tube ruptures that have caused the wheel rim to fracture and fly off. Of these, 18 included reports of injury, with 14 occurring while adults were filing the tires with air. Two children received cuts to their chin or leg while standing near the stroller, and 16 adults received injuries to their arms, legs, stomach or face.
Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact the company to receive free replacement wheels. For the wheels and further information, Consumers should contact Kolcraft at (800) 453-7673 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.Kolcraft.com then click Safety Notifications for more information.
The strollers were sold at Burlington Coat Factory, Sears and Toys R Us nationwide, online and at other mass market and independent juvenile specialty stores from June, 2010 through June, 2013 for between $150 and $180.
