Is Food the Secret to a Happy Family?

Hi everyone.  So one of the things that I regret about having started CloudMom these past two years is that I’ve been baking and cooking less.  We home cook all of our food and we do have a lot of family meals, but it’s simple fare and often, we (or, um, I rather) fall into ruts.

Is Food the Secret to a Happy Family?Pin for later!

It’s often said that one of the secrets to a happy marriage is food.  I agree with this, and I also think that in addition to being a recipe for a happy marriage, food is part of a happy home because of all the wonderful associations children in a growing family develop through experiencing their family’s favorite foods.

In this vlog, I talk about some of my wonderful memories from growing up and how they have informed what I’m trying to do as a mom when it comes to special family foods.  I discuss how my mom was a domestic goddess – which I am NOT – and how I’ve tried to adapt what she did to my life as a busy mom with lots of kids.

For more on why I think it’s so special to have foods as part of your family traditions and how I’m trying to strike a balanced approach as a working mom of 5, watch my Vlog.

What are the little things you do that make you feel homey and cozy and unique as a family.  Do you cook and bake every day, once a week, for holidays?  How do you work it out?  And do you think food makes a family happier?  Weigh in on!

Thanks for stopping by and make sure to check back for more! xo

    Hi Melissa!

So nice to hear about your family traditions, didn’t know you had Swedish ancestry, my family are originally from Finland.

You might not be able to do everything your mother did, but don’t put yourself down either. As a child you may not have seen all the times she crashed out at the end of the day after she had put all you kids to sleep, and you probably have stronger memories of those times that she did make an effort to make things special for you, rather than all the numerous times things were normal and average. I’m sure you are doing just fine and your kids are enjoying the times you do get to do things for them. As long as you are happy and they are happy.

My first child is only 6 months old, so I have all these things still to look forward to!

    • Thanks! Now with Christmas here I am trying to bake a bit more. Funny I do remember my Mom yawning alot when we were little!! Thanks for your words of encouragement! xo M
