Being Silly with your Kids

From the get-go, we parents focus on instilling good attributes in our kids. We try to teach them to be responsible, hard-working, civic-minded, caring, warm, loving, and thoughtful. It all makes sense. Yet as we focus on being good, the benefits of playful parenting can get lost.

A playful parent, to me, is one who does just plain silly things with her kids and in the process, has fun and bonds with them.

How Can I Have Fun with my Kids

You don’t need to get on an airplane, buy things or otherwise spend money to have fun with your kids. Rather, you can tell funny stories, tease each other, play games, or just even make faces. Yes, this all sounds very simple and silly but that is the point.

When I think back to being little, I remember the fun times we had in our house together playing music, games and dancing. Your kids will do the same.

The point is to just spend time with your kids, have fun, and make them feel happy. Maya Angelou once said: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Your children will forget the details like what you gave for dinner, what they wore, where they went and what they did on a daily basis. But they will never forget how you made them feel during these happy, silly times.
