Mom Fashion: Jeweled Sweater

Hiyya! So, I’m still sharing photos of our wonderful trip to London and it’s so much fun to think back to the nice outings we had … sigh!
On a night when we didn’t have a reception for Marc’s conference, we went for a drink to a very historic hotel in London called The Savoy. The hotel is decorated in a classic, art deco style with lovely old wood, comfortable sofas, and 20’s chandeliers.
The Savoy has hosted celebrities for generations, and before our drink we saw letters and photos from Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Judy Garland, among others. Many had written sweet thank you notes after their stay.
Since the setting was kinda sorta fancy, I took a bit of time to figure out what to wear for this special cocktail with the hubs. I chose a pair of stretch legging pants from Theory and a beige gem sweater. I adore this jeweled sweater, which I picked up last summer on sale at Karen Millen, because it is so comfortable and yet look dressy enough for a pretty dressy occasion.
For shoes, I wore black patent pumps and for a bag, a beige clutch that I use all the time, with black and with other colors too.
The setting was so elegant and luscious — reminding me of something out of Downtown Abbey — that I had to beg the CloudMom resident photographer to keep snapping away. Aren’t these the prettiest flowers you’ve ever seen? Gasp! And look at the detailing in the tile floor!
We selected some 20’s titled drinks and enjoyed that in the bar area before heading out to somewhere else (and cheaper!) for dinner. But so happy was I to have dwelled in this gorgeous setting for a few moments!!
From a fashion perspective, for those who grow tired of dresses, there is SO much you can do with black pants. First, try to dress them up with your shoes. Then, explore tops that really bring a dressy element, such as embellished sweaters. If you manage to get a clutch in there too for evening (versus that huge bag you lug around during the day, which I always have on my shoulder), well then, mama, you clean up pretty darn good!
Thanks so much for reading and check back in next week for another fashion post!
