How To Plan the Perfect Babymoon

Picture it: You’ve just found out that you’re pregnant. Ecstatic with the news, you’re already buying everything in sight at baby stores. Then, all of a sudden, it hits you that in just a few short months, life as you know it will change forever. There will be a new person to love, someone who requires all of your energy and attention (and money!) for the next eighteen years or more. Panic sets in, and you may be prompted to book the babymoon of a lifetime, one last couples vacation with your partner to a fun location to soak up the last moments of your former life. Taking a babymoon is a great idea to get yourself ready for baby, but there are a few things to consider before pulling the trigger on plane tickets or hotel reservations.
Find the Perfect Time
You have nine months of pregnancy to go on a babymoon trip, so don’t jump the gun and go before you’re ready. Most experts recommend traveling no earlier than your second trimester, when morning sickness will have subsided and you aren’t as uncomfortable as you will likely be in the third trimester. 18-24 weeks seems to be the prime time to take a trip in order to avoid feeling sick and off while far away from home.
Find the Perfect Location
It’s tempting to take this opportunity to travel abroad to a place you’ve never been, but that may not be ideal for pregnant women. Long plane rides can be uncomfortable, as stretching your body won’t be easy or possible in certain situations. Additionally, jet lag will only contribute to your discomfort and fatigue once you arrive, making it difficult to soak up everything your destination has to offer. For these reasons, far away locations may not be the best babymoon ideas. A destination closer to home or maybe a few hours away by car or plane may be a better option, and can still provide a plethora of exotic beaches, spas, or nature reserves to enjoy.
Find the Perfect Support
Checking with your doctor and getting their advice before traveling while pregnant is crucial. Make sure that they know where you’re going, how you’re getting there, and how long it will take. Your doctor can offer tips to help you stay comfortable, and will be able to help you plan activities that won’t strain you too much. Also, they will be on call if complications arise and possibly be able to recommend a doctor near your vacation site in case of an emergency. Having a Doc is in your corner makes any babymoon more relaxing, comfortable, and safe.
Find the Perfect Shoes
If your babymoon requires a lot of walking, say touring museums or shopping, make sure that you have a reliable pair of walking shoes that won’t hurt your feet. Foot swelling and pain is very common during pregnancy, so having the right shoes could be the difference between moseying through shops or cafes and breaking down on the sidewalk in pain. You and your partner will both benefit from your comfort, and it will make the trip more enjoyable and easy if worries about walking long distances are alleviated.
Find the Perfect Mindset
Going on a babymoon is fun! It’s a chance for you to bond with your partner and relax before a big change in both of your lives. It won’t be long until you’re traveling with kids, so make sure that you are going on this trip with the intention of relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. Don’t be afraid to do anything you want, well, within reason. Get massages, lounge on the beach, eat everything! Pamper yourself and your partner to get yourselves ready for baby.
There you have it! I hope this checklist will help you plan and enjoy the perfect babymoon, something special than you and your partner can look back on forever.
