    Hi Melissa,

Thanks for this. I just gave birth a month ago and have just been dealing with a growth spurt the past few days.
Yesterday, I was having a really bad day but trying to keep it together. Unfinished chores, breast feeding almost all the time, baby barf, worried sick about baby acne, fussiness, and what the heck I’m doing wrong.
We were in the car and my husband was so undecided which baby store to go to and it just about drove me to the edge. We ended up going to babys r us and suddenly burst into tears with frustration. I thought I was the worst mother alive.
Thanks for reminding me that I don’t have to be perfect. I just have to do my best and love my son the best I can.

    Hi Melissa,

I love your blog and really appreciate you taking the time to share your tips. I just wanted to add a little something to this particular post of “Debunking the Myth of Perfect Motherhood” that may relate to someone else. When I met my husband, then boyfriend, about ten years ago, we spoke about what age I wanted to have children. He agreed of my choice to wait until my thirties, now in my mid-thirties we have our first baby born just a few months ago. I had all these ideas as to how I would approach motherhood and none of them were a standard of perfection. I just wanted to try to do the best I can as a new mother. I allowed myself to let the laundry sit unfolded for a spell. Hey, I did the laundry at least. I dedcided to hire a housekeeper to sort out the house. And I truly believed in co-parenting. As my husband works from home and only travels for work every so often I encouraged him to co-parent. Now, I understand that that life style may not apply to all and most stay-at-home mothers are often left to tend to baby and home by themselves. Even though I have help from both my husband and a cleaning service I still find myself trying to catch up. What I’ve learned in a short amount of time is to breethe, even though I don’t try to strive for any perfection or even try to strive to be me pre-baby, I really try to take it easy on myself.

YOu have such a great approach and you’re so thoughtful — it’s great that you had all of this in your mind before having a baby, I know I certainly did not! So happy for you… it sounds like you are doing great. Happy Holidays!!
