I’m Pregnant with #6!

Hello mamas and papas.
Well, I’ve been doing this site for nearly ten years now and this is my biggest and most surprising announcement to date: I’m pregnant with my sixth baby! Yup, this old woman (or older woman, let’s say) with older kids (aged 9-16) is having her sixth baby. The pregnancy came as quite a shock and at a time when our family has been going through a lot of changes, which I will get into with y’all later on the blog.
I’ve decided to announce my pregnancy now because I don’t want to waste time before getting into the trenches with you mamas and mamas-to-be about what to expect during pregnancy, and in particular, during a geriatric pregnancy.
What is a Geriatric Pregnancy?
Technically, a geriatric pregnancy is one that takes place after the age of 35. Three of my five pregnancies were thus officially geriatric and let’s just call this one ultra-geriatric, shall we?
I’m going from asking how many bedrooms should a family of 7 have, to how to create a nursery out of a small terrace! Yup, this baby is going into my office/terrace right by my bedroom. I’ll be decorating this “terrace nursery” as economically as possible along with you guys, sharing my journey canvassing the myriad of choices in that regard and hopefully making the best picks for my space, budget, and needs.
Also, once the baby arrives, I plan to launch a Pregnancy Week to Week series in which I will present all the medical information you need to know in as clear a fashion as possible along with my best tips regarding diet, exercise, and my personal bump analysis (my very own pregnant belly expansion calculator, shall we say). Since I’m tall (and this varies a lot) my belly expansion was pretty mild at first, but man, do I feel that belly growing and expanding now at Week 20! This series will include a fun checklist of what you should be planning for, and tidbits from my own experience.
In addition, I plan to keep drafting product guides which survey the most practical, economical and helpful products for babies so that you can start to assess these for yourself in preparation for your new addition.
And, incorporating the newest products, I plan to return to my roots in the how-to space, going through in video form the basics of baby care, from changing diapers, to breastfeeding, to playtime, to sleep. While many pieces of advice remain the same, much has changed and I’ll be learning right alongside you guys.
Having a baby at age 50 is a shocking and controversial thing. Having done comprehensive prenatal testing, I feel more secure but still concerned, to be honest. Connecting with all of you has been such a source of support that I know it will help assuage my own anxieties and make this pregnancy the most magical possible.
Check back in next week for my first pregnancy fashion post and stay tuned for more pregnancy-related content on CloudMom. Feeling so fortunate to share all of this with you.
See ‘ya soon. Gratefully,
Melissa
