How To Pamper Yourself During Pregnancy

Hey Mamas! Pregnancy stress is real and it takes some major tolls, physical, emotional and mental. Eating right, going to doctor’s appointments and prenatal yoga classes can take a lot out of anyone, especially while carrying an extra thirty or so pounds! Pampering yourself during those nine months can help you feel better in every way, as well as give you a pick-me-up when you’re feeling a little down. Making time to do things for yourself, even just a small treat, makes all the difference in your mood and attitude during pregnancy. Here are some of my favorite ways to pamper mama-to-be.
Pregnancy Pampering Ideas
Take a Bath
Aches and pains are a common symptom of pregnancy, so taking a relaxing bath is a great way to soothe your muscles and relax your mind. Some people worry that taking baths is not good for you during pregnancy, but that is just a myth. The only factor to worry about if you’re going to take a bath is keeping the water at or below 100 degrees. Higher temperatures, especially during the first trimester, can raise your overall body temperature and cause stress for the baby. As long as you keep an eye on the water temperature, baths are a wonderful way to pamper yourself and relax during pregnancy. There are additives you can incorporate into the bath, such as essential oils and epsom salts, to enhance the experience and provide even more relief for achy muscles. Essential oils are best used in the second and third trimesters, but only soothing scents such as lavender and chamomile, as stronger oils like clove and cinnamon can cause contractions.
Get Your Hair and Nails Done
Feeling done-up might be the last thing on your mind during pregnancy, but something as simple as blowing out your hair or going to the salon for a trim can help you feel refreshed and beautiful, especially when your body feels brand new and foreign to you. I know that for me, having my nails done makes me feel productive and put together, two things I really lacked during pregnancy. Pampering yourself with beauty treatments not only gives you time alone to relax, but also leaves you feeling refreshed and pretty – more like yourself.
Aromatherapy
Remember those soothing essential oils I mentioned before? Well, the same ones can be used to do aromatherapy either at home or at the spa. When you’re pregnant, essential oils like lavender and chamomile during the first trimester and even later on help to calm nausea and morning sickness. Anything that helps with those symptoms qualifies as pampering in my book! You can incorporate these oils into your day by adding drops to your bath, putting them in a diffuser in your home, or even keeping a water-oil solution in a bowl by your bed.
Get a Massage
Many salons and spas have special treatments for pregnant women, and nothing beats a back rub after carrying baby around in your belly for a few months! Research spas in your area to find one that specializes in pregnant massage, so they’ll know exactly where you need help. If you don’t want to spend the money or travel to a spa, ask your hubby or a friend to rub your back and feet. They’ll be happy to help you in any way they can, and if they aren’t sure how to do it, there are tons of videos online regarding how to massage a pregnant woman. Massages are great for alleviating stress and muscle aches, which are very common for pregnant women.
Any way you can, make sure to pamper yourself during pregnancy. Your body is undergoing changes like never before, and it’s important to take time and steps to make yourself more comfortable and to feel good to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Simple things like a warm bath or foot rub made all the difference during my pregnancies, so try these out to pamper yourself future mamas!
