5 Best Baby Sun Hats of 2024
- June 9, 2022
- by Melissa Lawrence
Hi there, moms and pops! This is a review that will appeal to two kinds of parents: the fashion-conscious and the safety-conscious. While not all of you may be the first, hopefully you’re all in the second group! Your little one’s skin is sensitive to UV rays, which is why it’s so important to protect them. I’ve shopped around and organized here my picks for the best baby sun hats.
A sun hat, note, is no replacement for sunscreen. If going to the beach, you’ll probably want to consider a beach tent too, for which I have a review. But a sun hat is a great, simple addition to these other measures, which can just as well be used for a stroll downtown on a summer day as on the beach.
You’ll find here both sun hats for baby girls and sun hats for baby boys. Usually it’s an option once you click through to the Amazon page.
1. i play. by green sprouts Sun Hat
$14
- Best sun hat for coverage
- Less suited to the beach
If coverage is what you’re looking for, then seek no further than this Green Sprouts sun hat. In general, sun hats cover only so much of the face, and little of the neck. This wide-flapped hat offers ample coverage for the entire neck.
For extra coverage, it comes with UPF 50+ protection integrated into the fabric. I like how airy it is, keeping baby cool. I also appreciate that one can cinch it for a secure fit. Just be sure not to get it wet, or its brim collapses (see below for a waterproof hat).
2. SwimZip Kid’s Sun Hat
$19
- Best sun hat for the beach
- Floats on water and dries quickly
This hat is another good choice if you’re looking for coverage. It sports a wide brim in a chic and sleek design, available in a large number of colors. It features side vents for superior cooling, and is made from a fast-drying material with UPF 50 protection built in.
You can adjust this hat using the straps. I like that it floats on and withstands water so well, and dries so quickly once it gets wet. That makes it ideal for trips to the beach. I also note that the brim holds well against wind!
3. ZOOCCHINI UPF 50+ Baby Sun Hat
$9-14
- Cutest sun hat
- Available in a number of kid-friendly designs
- Ample coverage
This Zoocchini sun hat is a good choice if you’re looking for something a little more on the cutesy side! You can get it in a number of different adorable designs: a duck, an alligator, a strawberry, a pineapple, a flamingo, and more. Its fabric offers certified UPF 50+ protection, and its microfiber polyester construction makes it quick to dry.
I like that it’s so cute and offers a wide brim for ample coverage. But some people find its straps to be too generous for smaller kids, so you might want to hold off on this one until your baby’s, say, a year old.
This swim cap from H&M is a less expensive and yet stylish option for a sun hat. It sports a visor at the front to protect the face, and a flap in the back to protect the back of the neck.
I like that the material is like a swimsuit: breathable and quick to dry. It’s pretty secure on the head as well, so it won’t fly off in the wind. You can easily grab this during your next H&M run.
5. Comhats Infants Toddlers Fedora Sun Hat
$16
- Best sophisticated sun hat
- Unisex beige design works for girls or boys
I’m wrapping up this review with a classy option: a fedora sun hat from Comhats. This hat is for your older kids, as the smallest size starts at about three years of age. Made of straw, its unisex beige design suits it to either boys or girls.
It’s ventilated, so it will keep your kid cool in the summer heat. It has UPF 50+ protection. And it’s sure to garner lots of compliments!
