Hi, moms and dads! Being the neat freak that I am, I’m looking forward to today’s topic: bathing your baby. It’s been a hot and sticky summer here in Barcelona, and I love washing the dirt and heat of the day off my kids before dinner. I tend to do it in the late afternoon, before I get tired in the evening and am ready to unwind. If you’re wondering how to bathe your baby, watch my video tutorial on how to give your baby a bath.
You should be giving your baby hand washes until their umbilical cord falls off. Once that happens, usually after a couple of weeks, you can move them into a baby bathtub. And please, always remember never to leave your baby unattended in the bath! Here’s my review of the top baby bathtubs on the market now.
1. The First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn to Toddler
$21
- What’s notable about it: very affordable baby bathtub, comes with infant hammock
- Dimensions: 30 x 15.75 x 9.5 inches
- Range: infant to toddler
I just finished saying that you should wait until your baby’s umbilical cord falls off to start using a bathtub, but this product makes a liar out of me! This The First Years Sure Comfort bathtub comes with an infant hammock so that you can hold your newborn securely in it from day one. Once they have better head control, you can take the hammock out.
This tub fits in both a sink and a bathtub, and can even be used in the shower. It’s one of the least expensive options on the market. Yet, parents are largely satisfied with its quality, most of them saying that it gets the job done well without slippage.
2. Skip Hop Moby Bathtub with Sling
$30
- What’s notable about it: cute design, easy to shift between modes, better for bathtubs
- Dimensions: 27.5 x 19 x 11.6 inches
- Range: infant to toddler, up to 25 pounds
This Skip Hop Moby bathtub is one of the cutest tubs I’ve ever laid eyes on! Like the previous tub, you can use this one with your newborn. That’s made possible by the mesh sling insert, which is built into the tub. Once your baby is more stable, you just shift the insert into its second position.
This tub is mainly designed with bathtubs in mind. Take note of its dimensions: it probably won’t fit in your sink. Parents love that it offers perfect support for babies from the newborn to the sitter stage.
3. Blooming Bath Baby Bath
$39
- What’s notable about it: plush design makes it highly adaptable (and picture-perfect)
- Dimensions: 15 x 4 x 18 inches
- Range: 0 to 6 months
The Blooming Bath bathtub is an ideal choice for bathing your little one in the sink. The design is gorgeous, and might I say, perfectly Instagrammable. It’s shaped like a lotus flower, and is made of polyester plush, enabling it to adapt to practically any sink. Parents love the cuddliness of the plush and the ability to wash their babies standing up.
There are two caveats to bear in mind about this product. Firstly, its range is more limited, supporting babies only to about the age of six months, when they enter the sitter stage. Secondly, because it’s made of plush, it can take quite some time to dry, even a few days for a full dry.
4. Munchkin White Hot Inflatable Duck Tub
$12
- What’s notable about it: perfect for travel
- Dimensions: 2.75 x 9.5 x 9.25 inches
- Range: 6-24 months
Who loves to travel? If you follow me on social media, then you know that becoming a parent never dampened my wanderlust—if anything, it enhanced it! So I’m glad to find the Munchkin White Hot Inflatable Duck Tub, which is designed with travel in mind. Once you’re done using it, you can easily deflate and fold it into a compact form that won’t take much space in your luggage.
You can’t use this one with your newborn, but it has a pretty respectable range, being usable for babies from 6 to 24 months. Parents love the support of the tub and its compactness, and some note that it makes a handy flotation device for trips to the lake or beach.
5. Boon Naked 2-Position Collapsible Baby Bathtub
$65
- What’s notable about it: folds compactly, perfect for urban apartments
- Dimensions: 30.39 x 17.91 x 6.65 inches
- Range: infant to toddler
As an urban mom, I like how easy it is to collapse this bathtub into a very compact form. Once folded, the Boon Naked Collapsible bathtub is about the size of a towel rack, and comes with a hook so that you can hang it on your shower or bath wall to dry. It also has a great range, going from newborns to toddlers, all with a one-piece design so that you don’t lose parts.
The Boon Naked is more of a luxury item among baby bathtubs, but reviewers love the ease of using it, how little space it takes up, and how long it lasts. So you won’t be sorry.
