Baby Nursery Ideas – Stage 3

Hi everybody and welcome back to the latest post and show in my mini-series on Baby Bracey’s new nursery, which we have been creating out of a terrace. The process has required us to think outside the box, to be flexible about space, and to think carefully through our choices, especially since we have been doing this on a shoe-string budget!
Baby Nursery Ideas Generally
Baby nursery ideas for small rooms
It’s easy to shop for baby nursery ideas generally on Pinterest or in fancy magazines online. But when you’re dealing with a small space, and not inheriting an open canvas, you have to be flexible in your approach. Since we did not have anywhere else to put Baby Bracey, we opted to design our baby nursery out of the terrace off of our bedroom. The terrace had been closed in but does not have the finishes of an inside space. It has Carrera marble walls and a beige marble floor, and lacked warmth. At first, I couldn’t imagine taking care of a baby there!
I was dead set on painting the walls light blue but, after sitting in the space for a while and giving himself some time to digest what we were working with, Paulus suggested going with a puddy color that would work well with the stone. I am so glad we did since we thereby integrated the stone of the floors and walls.
We decided to stick to the same color scheme with blackout curtain liners and blackout window shades (so that we would have double the protection from the light). The shades have a darker puddy color and are much warmer than the prior white.
Another choice Paulus made, in agreement with one YouTube viewer (thanks!) was to opt for light blue rather than beige for the nursing chair or “breastfeeding glider”. This provides a much-needed pop of color and says “baby” in a way the room needed. I am thrilled with the chair, which we bought here in Barcelona. It’s super comfortable and cozy and having already spent many hours sitting in it with the baby, I consider it a haven. My kids are arguing over it so you know that’s a good sign. Yesterday I was asked “How come you always get to sit in the new chair?” Teenagers, right?!
Our “Almost There” Baby Room
If you’re hunting for baby boy room ideas, watch along in the video as I walk you through the choices we have made. We have one big new thing coming — the wall to wall carpet that will cover the ledges which line the floor since otherwise, their edges will be too sharp for Bracey. This rug is hopefully coming next week and I can’t wait.
Thanks for checking in and see you back here soon for the next installment!
