When To Freeze Breast Milk

Hello, dearies!  I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately from viewers on when to freeze breast milk.  Viewers have been asking questions such as: how should I go about storing pumped milk?, should the breast milk I pump be frozen right away?, can my breast milk be collected during the day and frozen that night?, or can my breast milk be frozen the day after I have pumped, or perhaps days after?  These are very important questions because all of us nursing and pumping moms need to follow breast milk storage guidelines precisely in order to ensure that our babies’ milk is pristine, safe to consume, and as healthy and full of nutrients as possible!  My video Breast Milk Storage Guidelines walks through all of the ins and outs of storing breast milk safely and in an organized fashion, which I found to be a must the more I pumped.  Check that out as well.  In today’s video, I tackle one precise issue: when do I freeze the breast milk I have pumped?

So you have a huge milk supply, more than your baby can handle at once! What are you going to do with all the excess milk? Save it for later, of course! This video will give you all you need to know on breast milk storage!

How to Store Breast Milk

When storing pumped milk, you really have two options. You can either store in bags or in bottles. Personally, I have loved using bags for my breast milk. These are great because they’re actually quite simple to pour into and won’t leak all over the place! Make sure you’ve washed your hands well, grab your breast milk storage bag or breast milk storage container, and carefully label it with today’s date. This will help when identifying which milk to use first so that you don’t end up in the situation where you are forced to discard milk which is not longer viable for your baby.  Pour your milk into the open bag and close the top. Store the bag in the freezer in an upright position to avoid leaking. Fore more details, check out this and other videos!
