I’m currently soaking up the sun with my children in the sunshine state itself, good ol’ Florida. Needless to say, I’m a HUGE fan of blackout liners, and if you’ve watched any of my previous videos, you may have already seen that! Blackout liners can be placed in your child’s room or your baby’s room, and it helps them to sleep past sunrise. I do have a couple of issues with blackout liners, but luckily there are a few simple solutions!

Blackout shades problems and solutions
I’ve found that certain blackout shades — not all of them — can be heavy, so it’s nearly impossibly to get them to stay up with the non-stick blue tape that I recommend. If you use a hardier tape, such as gray or black duct tape, it may take off the paint or the wallpaper from the wall. This is especially a pain if you’re staying at a friend’s house or at a hotel! Thankfully, these problems have a couple of very quick fixes.
Using thumbnails can easily fix the issue with the blackout shades not sticking up. You can pin the blackout liner to the wall, but just make sure that the thumbnail holes are going into a totally unobtrusive place! Another very easy fix is to stick garbage bags up on the windows. Yes, garbage bags! You can take enormous garbage bags and tape these with Scotch tape along the inside of the window. I found that it’s best to use Hefty Refuse Liner garbage bags. These aren’t just your ordinary garbage bags-they’re enormous, 45 gallon-holding, sun-blocking beauties. They may not make pretty window treatments (and I certainly won’t be on the cover of Good Housekeeping with this idea), but they work REALLY well. When I used the garbage bags, my children slept until 8:10 a.m. No interruptions, no kids up early and running around screaming.
Keeping my kids in bed as late as possible in the morning has become a huge priority for me, especially on the weekends or on vacation. That’s why it’s so important for me to find out the best ways to get my child to sleep, so how do you get your kids to sleep late? Moms, let me know if you know of any other tricks for blocking out the sun early in the morning!
