Hello fellow parents!
What’s the one thing parents look forward to the most when it comes to bring home a new baby? Why, the diapers, of course! Well, I’m definitely kidding. But changing your baby’s diaper is something every parent has to go through. I think of it as a rite of passage for every mom and dad. With my help and list of essential newborn items, you’ll know how to change a diaper in no time and be a pro on what to pack in a diaper bag!
Pin for later!
Diapers: Diapers come in all different shapes and sizes, all with their own unique patterns and cartoons! In my video, I give an example of a very small diaper for newborns that has a space for the umbilical cord to heal properly in the first few weeks. When it comes to diapers, I usually stick with bigger sizes because you’ll never know when your baby is going to have an explosive poop. A bigger diaper will help keep everything in its place and you’ll be happy it did!
Wipes: This really depends on your own personal preferences. I really enjoy the Pampers wipes, which are thinner but don’t cling to each other. I find that many people like Huggies, which are thicker but are a little more difficult to pull apart from one another. You’ll need a big box of wipes on your changing table and another smaller box in your diaper bag for when you’re traveling with baby!
Diaper Creams: There are a whole bunch of creams out there, but they all fall into two categories. One is similar to a Vaseline, the other would be a thicker, heavier white cream. Some examples of good diaper cream brands are Desitin, Balmex, and Triple Paste. This last one is pretty expensive but very effective at healing diaper rashes.
Chux Changing Pads: Drum roll please! These are my absolute favorite diaper bag essential! My friend suggested these to me and I can’t thank her enough for the tip! Instead of washing your changing pad every day, these super absorbent changing pads will drastically cut down on your laundry load. And, you can bring a whole bunch of them with you on-the-go to use when changing your baby in public restrooms! So convenient.
Diaper Bag Checklist:
When deciding on a diaper bag, think of practicality first! Some designs combine practicality and fashion, but your main focus should be on practical storage, both inside and outside with lots of pockets and space for bottles. Mine is water-proof, folds over, and very easy to carry. You’ll use this diaper bag to carry all of the essentials I mentioned before, so it should hopefully last you a few years (enough for a few babies!)
You’ll be changing your new baby’s diaper a lot, so making sure your changing station is set to go is an absolute must. Efficiency and convenience are key! Hope this list helped!
