Hello mamas and mamas-to-be and thanks so much for tuning in to my first pregnancy post!

Finding maternity wear that suits your body and feels comfortable is easier now than it was 10 years ago when I had my last baby. Countless new brands have sprung up, most offering fun twists on casual looks, like jeans, leggings, and t-shirts. Now in the second trimester, I’ve begun checking these maternity brands out since my regular clothes are not an option. During the first trimester, I relied on Onzie Yogawear for the entire day. Quarantined with my family, I spent my days at home and had no need to get gussied up (sorry kids!). With restaurants and shops opening up in Barcelona, there now is occasion to get out on the town and it feels good to dive into my closet and put on a dress and sandals. A dose of real-life has come back and I’m so grateful for that (and hope it lasts!)

Last weekend, we ventured to France to attend the baptism of Maximilian, the new baby of my dear friend Helene. The 9.5-hour car ride nearly did us in, and I was so wiped out from the drive and being pregnant that I forget to take a photo of the An’ge casual empire waist maxi dress I chose to wear. So I took some on my terrace this morning, instead. Here, though, is proud mama Helene with the gorgeous new baby!

Back to the dress. This empire waist maxi dress works perfectly for summer and for my second-trimester belly: the v-neck provides a hint of sexy while not being too revealing; the empire waist sits high but not too tight; the bottom of the dress is roomy enough for a growing body; and the dresses’ floor length provides welcome cover for my swollen pregnant legs and ankles (yup!) and unwelcome spider veins.

The long maxi style is a good bet when it comes to a pregnancy dress for a party like this since it’s loose, flowy, and festive — not structured, tight, or formal. Plus I love the printed green fabric (which I’ve been told is an “in” color this year — who knew!) and the soft fabric.

Our kids played soccer for hours while the adults dined on a Brazilian fish dish prepared by the happy father, cheeses, and tarts. It took so much effort to get everyone to this event but I felt so grateful and relieved to have made the trip.
