Sorry, Karen, I took my kids to Gettysburg for the 150th anniversary of the battle. One daughter was in both a band intensive and a ballet intensive while another helped teach an Irish dance class.

This was all balanced by going to the pool a lot and eating ice cream…every day! And, horrifying as it may sound, the youngest ones watched every SpongeBob episode ever made. Every. One.

So, your answer for your kids’ “what we did this summer” essay: We had a balanced season of intensive fun. And ate donuts. And we’ll do it again next year!

(FYI, in Missouri school started 3 weeks ago! So we have the convenient excuse of “But we just didn’t have time to help birth calves (animal husbandry intensive) or build wells in southern Kenya (hydrologic extraction intensive).”)
