Wasn’t it just Christmas? How is Valentine’s Day just a week away?

If, like me, you haven’t given this holiday an ounce of thought, here are some super easy crafts for kids. I love all these ideas — discovered on Pinterest, of course — because they don’t require a lot of elaborate supplies and therefore don’t stress me out.

1. Valentine’s Day Handprint Keepsake: I love, love, love gifts that are also keepsakes, so you can remember something from a particular year. With this simple craft from tonsoffunpreschoolactivities.blogspot.com, you use your child’s hand print and footprint to make this card. It reads “From the bottom of my heart, to the tips of my toes, I Love You!” I would add the year as well.

2. Valentine’s Day Gratitude Tree: I saw this idea on the website Nurture Kids, and I think it’s really smart. It reminds me of one of the Advent Calendar ideas we featured last year that I loved. All you need is some red and pink construction paper, ribbon and any decorations you want like stickers or markers and crayons. Then your children can write the names of people they love or things they’re grateful for and hang them on branches. Or if you don’t want to go trudging through the snow to find branches, like me, you can hang them on a ribbon on the wall as a garland.

3. Bug-o-Love: This is from the site ToddlerApproved.com (great website name!) and is fun project for your little love bugs, especially if your toddler is into creepy crawlies! With some card stock, markers, pipe cleaners and, scissors and stickers, you’re all set to get started. And you could turn this into a great Valentine’s Day card for dad. Older kids could make this independently, and for the wee ones you could help them out by drawing the bug and letting them add the fun stuff.

4. Toilet-Paper Roll Hearts: Okay, this one just made me laugh out loud so I had to include it. Put those empty toilet paper rolls to good use by letting your toddler go crazy making some cards with hearts. The only other things you need are construction paper and child-safe paint. Be prepared for a mess!

5. Heart-Shaped Cake Tutorial: Finally, this isn’t strictly a craft, but I had to include it because I think it’s a great idea. Follow the simple instructions from CraftKnife.com to make a heart-shaped cake.
