Baby wraps mimic the feel of the womb, and are no more than a simple fabric you wrap around your torso. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of tying them, but it’s well worth the effort. The Moby wrap is aptly named: it’s like the Moby Dick of this market! Since their appearance in 2003, Moby wraps have been enduringly popular with parents. You really can’t go wrong with a classic like these. They’re reasonably priced, they hold up well, and they support babies up to 35 pounds. 2. Boba Wrap

I don’t know if the creators of the Boba wrap named it after the popular tea, but if they did, then that was a shrewd move. Just writing about these whets my appetite! Moving on . . . these wraps are very similar to the Moby wrap. The most significant difference is that, instead of being 100 percent cotton, the Boba wrap includes spandex for stretchiness. They also support babies smaller than eight pounds better. On the other hand, the material is less breathable, so it gets hotter, though not so much so as to be inconvenient for most parents. If the foregoing wraps are outside your budget, then consider the Acrabros baby wrap for a more affordable choice. To save on cost, these wraps are made of polyester and rayon instead of cotton. On the bright side, that makes for a stretchier wrap. Parents are pleased with how lightweight and breathable the Acrabros is. At this price, it doesn’t hurt to give it a try!

I’ve included the Baby K’tan wrap mainly for one unique feature that sets it apart from others on the market. Most baby wraps have to be tied, which does require some technique, although I assure you that it’s not brain surgery (just watch my shows). If you’ve read my guide to choosing a carrier, then you know that slings can be slipped on. The Baby K’tan is a wrap that works like a sling: it just slips on! It’s made of 100 percent cotton, like the Moby. One caveat: unlike other wraps it comes in clothing sizes, so it won’t necessarily be transferable to your partner or babysitter.

I wrap up with a luxury choice for those of you who are in the mood for a splurge. (Hope the pun didn’t chase you off!) What is behind the higher price of the Solly wrap? It’s mainly the modal fabric—the same sort that’s popular these days in higher-end athletic clothing—made from the pulp of Austrian beechwood trees (fancy!). The result is an exceptionally lightweight, soft, and breathable wrap that is enormously popular among parents. This wrap can be used when the baby’s fresh from the womb, but it does have a lower-than-average maximum weight of 25 pounds, which is the trade-off of the delicate fabric.
