WW #126: Gillette Castle State Park

If you’re looking for fun places to visit in Connecticut, consider the arts and crafts style home of actor William Gillette. Gillette found fame as the actor who personified Sherlock Holmes over 1,300 times on stage. Now owned by the state of Connecticut and classified as a historical landmark, Gillette Castle State Park includes a hiking train, museum and picnic area. It’s an ideal place to spend a sunny, summer day with active kids.

Set high overlooking the lush Connecticut River, Gillette’s stone house recalls the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early part of the 20th century.
