Speaking from personal experience, I have to say that the more I introduced my babies to the water and the earlier I did this, the more comfortable they were swimming. One of my oldest children started quite late and he now loves swimming but at around 4-6 years of age he wouldn’t go in the water as eagerly as his siblings. Meanwhile, my girls who have been in the water since they were a few months old don’t want to get OUT of the water.

I totally agree. My son has been in swimming lessons since he was 6 months old. He is now 8 months and still the youngest baby in his class. My main reason was my fear of him drowning- even though he isn’t around water often. His teacher has told me that babies have memory of being in water in the womb and it’s better to start them early. I blow in his face and he goes under water with no issue, we only do it once since he’s so little. He is learning water safety and how to get in and out of the pool if he jumped in. He enjoys being in the water for his 30 minute class. He kicks and splashes in the water after the floating toys. He eats and naps really well afterwards. I want him to continue lessons until he can swim on his own.
